Costa to build £36m coffee roasting plant

Coffee giant will build a £36million roasting plant in Basildon. Costa Coffee will take over the site of the former Visteon motor parts business in Christopher Martin Road.

The international chain is building the state-of-the-art facility – only the second of its kind in the UK – on the empty factory site.

The exact number of jobs created at the new plant has yet to be confirmed but it is believed to be around 50.

Christopher Rogers, Managing Director for Costa, said: “Costa is growing and to meet strong customer demand we need to increase our coffee roasting capacity.

“Our existing Lambeth site does not have the long-term roasting capacity to cater for our increasing UK and international demand.

“The solution is to build a second roasting plant in the London area, which will continue to produce the high-quality coffee our customers love in the quantity the business requires.”
