British Land unveils 32-storey London office tower plan

Developer British Land has unveiled plans for a landmark office complex rising to 32-storeys to replace investment bank UBS’s London headquarters in the City.

Public consultation for the office building at 2 and 3 Finsbury Avenue Square has started  ahead of submitting a planning application in early 2016.

The landmark building designed by Arup comprises four unified elements providing  550,000 sq ft of commercial floor space for up to 5,000 office workers.

The proposals are part of the evolution and transformation of Broadgate, which saw Mace deliver the first major rebuild that will be the new home for UBS at the end of next year.

British Land hopes to start work on the site shortly after.

Plans to demolish 2 Finsbury Avenue Square come after the 1980s building (below), also designed by Arup, narrowly escaped being listed this year.

Shops are planned for the ground floor, along with a new retail arcade linking the square with Sun Street and Old Street to the north. A rooftop restaurant and terrace will be accessed from external scenic lifts, according to British Land.
