uvex is a brand that we have successfully worked with for many years, also a family run business passionate about sustainability. uvex have introduced their Planet PPE Range, which we would like to share with you.

The uvex sustainability label: a promise to people and the environment

The aim is to offer people exactly the right protection they need with uvex products. Protection in this regard takes on meaning in a wider social, ecological, and economic context. Protecting people naturally leads to protecting planet. To communicate this, a label concept has been developed to describe the uvex group’s sustainability projects.

Protecting planet - by using recycled material

To help conserve resources and protect the environment, uvex process various types of recycled materials. These include recycled polyamide from production surplus and recycled PET plastics from drinking bottles, in turn are used to manufacture frames for their safety glasses and eyewear products, headbands.

Protecting planet - by not using harmful substances

uvex refrains from using substances that are hazardous to health in accordance with the REACH regulation (EU).

In addition, they have developed their own list of Restricted Substances. uvex pursues a corporate policy of exclusively offering products that are free from hazardous ingredients, so that neither you nor the environment is impacted.

Products that come into contact with the skin such as PPE, should be free from harmful chemicals. uvex does not use substances that are hazardous to health or the environment in accordance with the REACH regulation (EU). In addition, they have developed their own list of Restricted Substances which far exceed the EU Directives in terms of product safety and environmental compatibility

 

Protecting planet - by reducing waste

To protect the environment, uvex works to cut waste in as many different places as possible. They regularly check the use of resources in their production facilities to see if their procedures and processes can be improved.

An example of a measure they're implementing is a making a concerted effort to reduce cardboard material by changing packaging sizes and reusing shipping boxes.

uvex trade fair equipment, relies on loan concepts – this guarantees that materials can be reused by other companies later.

Protecting planet - by saving energy

Environmental protection starts with electricity. uvex uses green energy across its locations in Germany, Cagi in Italy, Swedsafe in Sweden and Heckel in La Walck (Alsace), France.

uvex verify that it has made continual energy savings by implementing ISO50001. However, uvex does not simply rest on its laurels, saving electricity along the value chain also has a high priority.

Measures to help with sustainable processing include LED lighting, state-of-the-art machinery, and heat recovery processes.

Protecting planet - by reducing CO²

uvex believes that plant and bio-based materials represent the future. In a wide variety of their products uvex uses, bio-based HDPE (high density polyethylene) made from sugar cane. Lavalan (pressed wool). Prolan (pressed Bavarian sheep’s wool). Rapeseed oil-based PU foams. Textiles made from recycled PET bottles in addition to bamboo fibres. Bio-based polyamide and other plastics developed based on castor oil.

uvex stands out from the competition by offering improved product quality that can be verified. This can be seen in the coatings used for their safety glasses. Therefore, uvex customers have to buy new products less often because the products can withstand everyday use for a longer period of time. This not only saves money over the long term; it also saves valuable resources and generates less waste.

Protecting planet - by environmentally-friendly packaging

As part of its sustainability strategy, uvex has defined a target to increasing the proportion of environmentally friendly packaging it uses. An example, climateneutral (a status achieved with the use of offsetting measures achieved by way of climate protection projects). 100% recyclable packaging is used, which is occasionally even plant based, from grass-based cardboard. Also, the use of grass and stone paper in addition to recycled packaging film and bags made from renewable raw materials such as Tencel.
