Road Safety Week 2020

Road Safety Week 2020 - No Need to Speed

This week is Road Safety Week, the UK's biggest road safety event, coordinated annually by Brake, the road safety charity. Road Safety Week aims to inspire thousands of schools, organisations and communities to take action on road safety.

Every year they feature a different theme to draw awareness to different aspects of safe road use. No Need To Speed is the theme for 2020 aimed to remind everyone that reducing speed can work to stop road deaths, injuries and create safer roads.

Every 4 minutes someone is injured on a British road. A 1mph speed change can be the difference between life and death. According to the World Health Organisation road death is the biggest killer of young people globally. Simply reducing speed provides the driver with more time to react while the impact is reduced significantly.

Speed can dramatically impact the injuries sustained on the road. Being hit by a vehicle at 27mph is the equivalent of falling out a third-story window. By comparison, being hit at 18mph is the equivalent of falling from a first-story window.  Road Safety week provides more facts about the impact of speed on road users.

The construction industry can certainly do their part in preventing road death and injury, and keep the streets safe. In the construction industry vehicles cross pedestrian areas. Reduce injuries with a combination of clear signage and barriers will help reduce the risk on site of injuries and fatalities.

Bryson offers a range of Traffic Control products such as pedestrian barriers, road cones and road signs. Keep the public and construction workers safe and informed of any hazardous areas.
