Plans for 33-storey ‘giant clamp’ in Leeds city centre

The exact height of the 45,000m² proposed building is not yet known, but at 33 storeys it could challenge Aedas’s 32-storey Bridgewater Place for the title of Leeds’s tallest building.

Other schemes on the drawing board in the running for that crown include Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios’ 40-storey Globe Waterside tower, which was submitted for planning last year as part of a wider project on the city’s South Bank.

The building, dubbed INC Leeds, will provide a 198-room Aparthotel, 163 private rented sector flats, 200 co-living apartments, nearly 4,000m² of co-working space, a bar and restaurant, swimming pool, gym and shops.

The developer said the ambitious proposal could be a ’city-defining development’, adding:

‘Our vision is formed around not only developing world-class facilities, but creating a lifestyle that fits the aspirations of the innovative and dynamic businesses and people in our city.

‘Our ambition is to create a stand-out building in the North of England, competing with schemes with a national and international profile. We want this landmark building to become an asset for the city, with accessible public space that enhances the community and offers premier facilities under one roof.’

Councillor Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council, said;

‘very encouraging to see a Leeds-based developer bringing forward such ambitious proposals to create a new gateway into the city centre’.

The timescale of the proposal is not yet known.
